The founder of Grupo Abril, Victor Civita, started the operations of the publishing company in a small office in downtown São Paulo. When he published the first issue of Donald Duck, in 1950, he had only half a dozen employees at his side. The name Abril (the Portuguese word for “April”) was chosen by Victor Civita for his company because in the Northern Hemisphere, spring starts in this month. Victor was also responsible for choosing the tree as the company’s logo. In the words of the founder himself: “I have chosen the tree as a symbol because it represents fertility, the image of life.
