AITC Venture Capital is an investment management firm established to take advantage of the Alberta Investor Tax Credit (the "AITC") program (the "Program") introduced by the Alberta government in January 2017. This tax credit was introduced as part of the Alberta Jobs Program in an effort to help diversify Alberta from being so dependent on oil and gas. Qualifying corporations are required to meet a number of criteria, including the fact that they must be either carrying on business in one of four approved categories as an "eligible business corporation" or they must be focused on making investments into corporations that carry on business in one of the four approved categories. AITC Capital is the first approved "venture capital corporation" under the Program. Broadly defined, the four approved categories include technology, digital media, film production, and tourism. At this time, AITC Capital is only considering investments in the technology category.
