A spin-off of Apica Cardiovascular, APK Advanced Medical Technologies develops products that enable implantation of left ventricular assist devices — or LVADs — into the heart, using a minimally invasive technique. LVADs support function in weak hearts by helping the heart pump blood. According to the American Heart Association, the number of Americans living with heart failure is projected to reach 9 million by 2030. About 22 percent of these patients could be helped by an LVAD. APK creates proprietary access and closure technologies for use during LVAD implantation. Their offerings support implantation without invasive surgery or blood loss.
