The Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama, is a private, four-year liberal arts institution affiliated with the United States Methodist Church that aims to educate students both intellectually and ethically. Admissions do not require a religious background, only that students submit a high school or prior college transcript, ACT or SAT scores and a personal statement. A distinctive component of the Birmingham experience is the Exploration Term, a four-week period in January during which students undertake independent study in one area designed for creative activity. This experiential learning opportunity offers on-and-off-campus projects, independent research, internships and study abroad experiences.
