BROADBAND COMMISSION FOR DIGITAL DEVELOPMENT

Broadband Commission for Digital Development is a non-profit organization engaged in high-level advocacy to promote broadband in developing countries and underserved communities to promote achievement of the ‘Millennium Development Goals’ by 2015 and its successor framework Post-2015 U.N. Process. It was initiated by ITU and UNESCO in response to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon's call to step up U.N. efforts to meet the ‘Millennium Development Goals’. The commission’s aim is to impr... ove the importance of broadband on the international policy agenda and believes that expanding broadband access in every country is the key to accelerating progress towards these goals. Broadband Commission for Digital Development comprises a high-powered community, including CEOs and industry front-runners, senior policy-makers and government representatives, international agencies, and academia and organizations concerned with development. One of the central roles of the commission is to advocate for higher priority to be given to broadband infrastructure in the highest policy circles to ensure that the benefits of broadband infrastructure and services are realized in all countries. Chaired by Republic of Rwanda President, H.E. Paul Kagame and Carlos Slim Helu, Broadband Commission for Digital Development is headquarter in Geneva. It was initiated in 2010.
