CENTER FOR DIALYSIS INNOVATION
Center for Dialysis Innovation aims to use biomaterial and bioengineering technologies to transform dialysis care. It envisions that future dialysis therapy will be free of complications and will completely restore kidney health. Focused on reducing complications, the center undertakes a comprehensive technical redesign of dialysis treatment with patient well-being, independence, and self-care autonomy as goals using biomaterials and bioengineering. The Center for Dialysis Innovation opened in November 2016 through a partnership between Northwest Kidney Centers, UW Medicine and the University of Washington. It is led by co-directors Jonathan Himmelfarb, director of the UW’s Kidney Research Institute, and Buddy Ratner, a professor of bioengineering and chemical engineering.
