If you’re looking to learn a new trade or skill in a technical or construction field, the Dawson Technical Institute, formerly the Chicago Skills Center, in Chicago, Illinois, may be the place for you. Academics at the center consist of technical programs with an emphasis on trades in the construction field. The technical center also provides students with academic advising, career counseling, individual or group tutoring and a Learning Center, which contains informational and reference materials for assignment. Interested applicants are suggested to begin the admissions process four to eight weeks before the program’s start date. To apply, students must submit a valid driver’s license and official high school transcript or GED. A reading and math placement test may be required before enrollment. Some programs may also require a student to pass a health examination administered by the Department of Health. Students must file a FAFSA if they are seeking financial assistance with tuition costs. Students who qualify for financial aid, but who have not yet earned a high school diploma or GED, will be held to federal regulations for their “Ability to Benefit.”More
