DXR DEVELOPMENT GROUP

Before most people had even heard of the Internet, a team of medical educators at Southern Illinois University had the progressive idea to use computers to simulate the patient encounter. SIU School of Medicine faculty including Howard Barrows, M.D., Kevin Dorsey, M.D., Ph.D., and Hurley Myers, Ph.D., pioneered curriculum design for problem-based learning and patient simulations, and they helped to develop what are now core principles for building and measuring clinical expertise. Drs. Myers and... Dorsey teamed up with software engineer Eldon Benz to produce the world’s first virtual patient software, called Diagnostic Reasoning (DxR). This has since evolved into the comprehensive suite of patient simulations known as DxR Clinician. Building on this initial success, DxR Development Group has since authored an impressive diversity of medical education products, including interactive courseware in anatomy, physiology, and clinical medicine. In order to put their educational concepts into practice they developed DxR CORE, a versatile learning management system for the design and delivery of secure online teaching and testing.
