The Florida Institute of Recording, Sound and Technology first opened its doors in 2004, and has since provided training in all aspects of digital media. Its academics are designed for beginners, so you don't need to have any experience to apply. F.I.R.S.T. offers training programs in Audio Engineering & Music Production and Film & Video Production. Both programs are eight months long and consist of about 350 clock hours. The curriculum includes independent lab and internship hours, as well as courses in basic and advanced recording, MIDI, mixing and editing. The Film & Video Production curriculum is similarly structured, with a combination of classroom instruction, independent lab work, and internship experience. The program covers all aspects of production, from the initial stages to post-production. To apply to the Florida Institute of Recording, Sound and Technology, you must hold a high school diploma or equivalent. All applicants must also have basic computer skills and a strong desire to learn.
