GEM CITY COLLEGE

For decades, Gem City College in Quincy, Illinois, has been providing cosmetology and horology education and training. The school offers horology programs in Clock Repair, Engraving, Jewelry Design and Repair (including diamond setting), and Watchmaking and Repair. Gem City College also offers cosmetology programs for Hairdressers, Hairstylists, and Cosmetologists. There is a special offering as well for those who want to teach at a vocational school: Vocational Education Teachers, Post-Second... ary. There is a rolling admissions policy at the school, so new students can start training every week. After they have successfully completed their curriculum, they can request job placement services. For those who do not live in the Adams County area, the college even has a Home Study Division that allows students to learn from home. The college will give each student who qualifies for and enrolls in the home study program a list of supplies and tools that are required to complete their coursework. It is up to each student to purchase the equipment that is needed for the curriculum. Since these classes are not included in the school’s national accreditation, those in the home study program are not eligible for financial aid.
