Gilbane Building Company began its roots in Providence, Rhode Island, as a small carpentry business owned by William Gilbane. After taking on his brother, Thomas F. Gilbane, as an apprentice carpenter, the brothers, along with William H. Gilbane, founded Gilbane Building Company in 1870.
