GNOME is a non-profit community that develops free software. It believes that software should be developed in the open. The community’s development infrastructure and communication channels are public and its code can be freely downloaded, modified, and shared with others. Recognized as an important part of the free software ecosystem, GNOME works with other free projects to create quality solutions that span the entire software stack. GNOME’s software can be translated into many languages and comes with built-in accessibility features. GNOME was founded on August 15, 1997.
