Our role in the energy transition

For the time being, natural gas will remain a key component of the energy transition. Other carbon-neutral gases need to be added to the mix, so in the run-up to 2050, Gasunie will be concentrating on green gas, hydrogen, district heating grids and carbon capture and storage. We will also be working towards collaborative energy, i.e. closer collaboration between gas and electricity networks.

Gasunie is working on various themes: Green Gas, Hydrogen, Heat and Capture & Reuse of CO2. We are working on dozens of projects simultaneously, which are in various phases: from the initiation phase to the implementation phase.

In developing the projects, we look at technological, financial, economic and social aspects. New forms of energy must not only be sustainable, but also reliable and, of course, socially responsible. The trick is to be successful on all counts. Sustainability is not a success if you cannot sustain it economically. And vice versa: a reliable and cheap energy supply does not help us if it is at the expense of the climate and the environment.
