The leading soil carbon marketplace powered by AI and remote sensing technology | Earthshot Prize Winner '23

About us

Boomitra works with farmers and ranchers worldwide to increase soil carbon through improved agricultural practices and generate internationally certified carbon removal credits. We use proprietary AI and satellite technology to monitor, report, and verify (MRV) soil organic carbon to a 30cm+ depth, without physical soil sampling, reducing measurement costs by 99%. The process is cost-efficient, time effective, and scalable across various landholding sizes – enabling Boomitra to work globally: 5M+ acres, 150,000+ farmers, 4 continents, millions of credits sold to date. Boomitra sells the carbon credits to corporations and governments worldwide, enabling them to meet their sustainability goals. Farmers and landowners earn the vast majority of proceeds from each carbon credit sold, allowing them to re-invest in their farms and local communities. Boomitra means “Friend of the Earth” in Sanskrit. That is who we are and hope to inspire others to be. Learn more at boomitra.com

  • Happy New Year from Boomitra!  As we step into 2025, we’re celebrating a year of growth, impact, and resilience. From empowering farmers across the Global South to advancing the global soil carbon market, Boomitra has been at the forefront of driving climate action through regenerative agriculture. In 2024:  🌱 We expanded projects across Latin America, Africa, and Asia, supporting thousands of farmers and ranchers.  🌾 Our community grew as we partnered with companies, organizations, and governments dedicated to a more sustainable future.  🌎 Together, we made a measurable impact, improving soil health, food security, and livelihoods while drawing down millions of tonnes of carbon. To our partners, team members, farmers, and supporters, thank you for being part of this journey. In 2025, we’re excited to scale our efforts further, bringing climate justice, resilience, and opportunity to even more communities worldwide. • In the village of Kukaryan, Janak Singh nurtures his 4-hectare farm with care and respect. With the support of our local implementation partner Sharsid, Janak uses regenerative practices like:  ✅ Cover cropping with Berseem—a legume that restores soil health while serving as nutritious fodder.  ✅ Crop rotation with pulses—boosting fertility and breaking pest cycles.  ✅ Crop residue management—preventing practices like stubble burning. For Janak, soil isn’t just a resource—it’s family:  “Healthy soil means mother to me; I share a mother-son relationship. It’s my lifeline and livelihood.” 🌍 Let’s celebrate farmers like Janak who embody resilience and regeneration, cultivating soil health for generations to come. • Next in this month's farmer story series, we are celebrating Joyce Ongwen Shami. Based in Eluche Village, Kenya, Joyce is transforming her 2.4-hectare farm—and her future—through the power of healthy soil. Joyce grows maize using improved practices like:  ✅ Residue retention and management  ✅ Reduced tillage  ✅ Organic amendments These improvements have built a rich, loamy soil that is healthy and resilient.  For Joyce, this soil health is more than just a farming goal—it’s a lifeline:  “To me, healthy soil means I can grow more abundant, nutritious crops, even on small plots of land. It enables me to support my family’s nutritional needs, generate income, and maintain soil fertility for future seasons. Healthy soil also means fewer resources spent on fertilizers and pesticides, as it naturally retains moisture and supports plant health, helping me mitigate the risks of climate change.” Through regenerative practices, Joyce is improving her farm’s productivity and building resilience for her family and community. By storing carbon and reducing inputs, her work shows that #CarbonCreditsWork, driving food security and climate action one acre at a time. 🌍 Let’s celebrate Joyce and the farmers working to regenerate our soils for a brighter future! • Carbon markets have the power to fight climate change and uplift underserved communities—but how can they live up to that promise? A new working paper from CGAP, a global partnership housed by The World Bank, highlights key barriers to inclusivity, from high costs to the exclusion of women. Boomitra is proud to be featured in the working paper for our efforts to build inclusive carbon projects by: 🌱 Increasing affordability and accessibility 🌱 Fair and transparent revenue sharing 🌱 Supporting behavior change 🌱 Empowering women Read more about how Boomitraʻs work is building a greener, just future: https://lnkd.in/exEMHs-V Read the working paper: https://lnkd.in/etv75cNX

  • As a farmer-first company, Boomitra operates with farmers and their needs in mind. In our latest article, we feature nine growers from our global projects, highlighting the positive changes they’ve experienced on their land. Hear their wisdom: 🌱 “Now, after the introduction of regenerative techniques, we can see improvements in both biodiversity and soil quality. The farm is flourishing.” 🌾 “It’s impressive how you give something to the land and it gives you back something very beautiful.” 🌎 “It seemed like a dream come true, that in some way, the world was finding ways to reward those who are dedicated to producing while preserving the environment."   Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/eXB6nrqx #farmers #soilhealth #carboncredits #agriculture

Sebastián Vangeli and Dr. Soumya Shree K are back with the Carbon Hacker soil #TipoftheWeek!     🦠 Soil microbes are nature’s plant protectors. Fungi like mycorrhizae deliver vital nutrients and water while even sending pest warnings between plants. These microbes act as a natural defense team, controlling pests and harmful bacteria. In a healthy ecosystem, soil microorganisms form a protective coat over plant roots, stems, and leaves.     ☘️ Keeping soil microbes alive and thriving is key to healthy ecosystems—and regenerative agriculture is the way forward. By supporting biodiversity and nutrient cycling, regenerative practices help soil microbes do their best work. After all, above-ground biodiversity reflects below-ground biodiversity.    Learn about different regenerative techniques and how they heal soils: https://lnkd.in/gr9FX7fr

  • Colombia’s livestock sector spans 38% of the country, supporting over 630,000 farmers and generating 810,000 jobs. Yet, conventional practices like overgrazing have accelerated habitat degradation, reduced biodiversity, and worsened soil erosion.   🌿 That’s where Boomitra steps in.   Our Grassland Restoration Project in Colombia, in partnership with Alquería, works with ranchers to implement sustainable grazing practices that restore soil health, boost carbon sequestration, and strengthen climate resilience, all while supporting local communities.   The project is now listed on Verra. 🔗 Learn more about the project: https://lnkd.in/gA9Ym94x   📰 Explore how this work supports Colombia's dairy industry: https://lnkd.in/drTvSbqP   #ClimateAction #RegenerativeAgriculture #CarbonFinance #GrasslandRestoration #Colombia #SustainableFarming #Boomitra

  • Earlier this month we celebrated World Soil Day. But soil deserves more than just one day! For the rest of the month, we’re sharing stories from farmers enrolled in our programs. In the fields of Cañuelas, Argentina, Andrea Stefano at La Margarita is transforming her land—and our planet. By adopting regenerative livestock management and reduced tillage, La Margarita is building soil health and biodiversity while storing carbon. For them, healthy soil is about balance:  "A healthy soil has a structure that allows for nutrient balance, biological diversity, and sufficient moisture to maintain its fertility." Through the carbon credits they generate, La Margartia showcases how sustainable practices benefit both farmers and the planet. Carbon finance not only supports their work but also highlights that #CarbonCreditsWork by rewarding climate-positive action. This month, let’s celebrate the farmers who are regenerating our soils and securing a brighter future for all. 🌎 Learn more about the power of soil: https://lnkd.in/gCBrXs5M #WorldSoilDay #RegenerativeAgriculture #SoilHealth #ClimateAction #CarbonFinance
