This week, Shakil, one of our breakdown and repair engineers working on the Alliance-Norse (Norse Group) contract in the High Peak Borough Council area of Derbyshire, and Assistant Director of Operations, Lee Smith, truly embodied our Liberty Sense values. Shakil found himself stuck in deep snow while navigating the rural terrain in the freezing and snowy conditions that have been widespread this week. Despite the conditions, Shakil remained calm, and being accountable for his safety he raised the alarm and waiting for help to arrive, all the whilst mindful of the customers relying on him. Lee stepped in to assist his colleague, knowing that recovery vehicles were facing significant delays. Armed with a four-wheel drive vehicle, snow socks, wheel grip tracks, a shovel, and grit, he drove 60 miles to Buxton to make sure Shakil was safe. Together, they freed Shakil’s van from the snow, allowing him back on the road and back to serving Liberty's customers. Shakil’s determination was clear. The moment his van was free, he said, “I must crack on, I’ve got customers waiting!” and immediately got back to fixing heating systems for those in need. Lee said: "I would like to personally thank Shakil and all our teams who continue to operate in these challenging conditions. It shows great resilience and determination."

As temperatures continue to drop below freezing, tenants should always check their boiler's condensate pipe first if it stops working, as it could be frozen. Tenants can visit our Customer Hub page for more advice on how to defrost it: https://bit.ly/470BZiP

"As a contractor, we may be a resident’s only face-to-face contact with their landlord in a 12-month period, so our actions have a lasting impact...", Read our blog from Karen Sloan, managing director for heating and compliance in Inside Housing as Karen discusses how we need to look far beyond the numbers and understand that we’re also here to preserve culture and help landlords tell an authentic story about their role in people’s lives. https://bit.ly/41LneAC #Compliance #Safety #HeatingandCompliance #PropertyServices
