For 2024, we're proud to have supported a living wage for 439 talented artisans at our partner factories in India who bring our bags to life! 💚 💡What's a Living Wage? A living wage is what a worker should earn in a standard workweek, enough to support a decent life for themselves and their family. Sadly, in many countries, the minimum wage doesn’t meet this standard. While the artisans that create our bags receive at least the minimum wage (or more!), it’s often not enough for a comfortable living. That’s why, since 2022, we’ve been on a mission to contribute to paying them a living wage! 🤝Shared Responsibility Here’s how we’re doing it: O My Bag does not cover the full gap between the minimum wage and living wage. Since we don’t own the factories and they collaborate with other buyers, covering the entire amount wouldn’t encourage others to contribute their part. So, instead, we calculate our share of the gap and pay that extra amount. By sharing our process openly, we hope to inspire other buyers to take responsibility too! We’re also supporting our partner factories in having these important conversations with other brands 💬Let’s Talk Living Wage! 🌎 Big B Corp News We’re excited to share that we’ve reached 129.4 points on our B Corp recertification—a massive jump from 94.1 in 2021! This milestone reflects the hard work we put into making O My Bag more sustainable, ethical, and impactful. Curious how we got to 129.4? Here are some of our highlights: 🤝 Living Wages: the artisans who make our our bags earn at least a minimum wage, but this doesn’t always guarantee a decent standard of living for themselves and their families. Therefore, since 2022, we’ve been contributing to paying a living wage to the people behind our bags. 🪡 Sustainable Materials: We’re using game-changing materials to reduce our environmental footprint, like Mirum (plastic-free leather alternative) and Uppeal™ (made from apple waste), plus recycled cotton! 🚢 Less Impact: We’re choosing sea over air transport, streamlining our designs to cut down on materials and waste, working with LWG Gold certified tanneries for or responsibly made leather and cutting down on energy and gas use We’re proud of how far we’ve come, but the journey isn’t over. We’re already focused on our next assessment and are excited to raise the bar even higher. This past Better Friday, we committed to making every purchase a force for good 💚. By donating 3% of our revenue to the Empowering Cycles Program, in collaboration with the Kolkata Mary Ward Social Center, we are providing a year's supply of menstrual hygiene products to 529 women working in our partner factories ✨. Through this initiative, we're not only supporting women's health but also generating employment opportunities by producing these products locally.
