Our Employability Director Nick Morgan gives his take on today's newly released labour market statistics: "The latest labour market statistics from ONS suggest a difficult end to last year, with vacancies down again, unemployment up and estimates of payrolled employees falling by 32,000 between October and November 2024. "January always provides the opportunity for a fresh start, however. There are 812,000 vacancies to fill – and our employment advisers on the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Restart Scheme are working hard to help individuals access these roles, supporting them with health, training, money management, transport and more." Mark’s story illustrates how challenging it can be to get back into work after a long period of unemployment and the change in mindset that this demands. Read how the Restart Scheme helped Mark to find a care role he enjoys and the work it took him to achieve this: https://ow.ly/8aFC50UK4Fn

Reed in Partnership reposted this
"Hospitals using killer blood…” Join me in the first episode of a special series of shorts of 'all about business'. Today I venture into a gripping investigation from the 1980s with renowned journalist Sue Douglas. In this episode, Sue recounts her time as a young correspondent uncovering a harrowing story about potentially contaminated blood supplies imported into Britain. This investigation not only highlighted a risk for public health but also faced significant government hesitation and media backlash. This episode is a powerful reminder of the consequences of systemic failures as well as the relentless pursuit of truth and justice. The impact of Sue’s groundbreaking report led to a public inquiry... 40 years later!! Don't miss out on Sue's story... #lovemondays #lifeatreed #improvinglivesthroughwork #PhilCo #Since1960 #allaboutbusiness #Podcast #InvestigativeJournalism #PublicHealth #Justice

We offer everyone working at Reed in Partnership the chance to positively impact their local area through our volunteering initiative, Community Connect, which gives individuals three days each year to spend with a charity of their choice. Through Community Connect, two members of our Restart Scheme team in Gateshead, Senior Partnership Manager Anna Warner and Operations Manager Sharon Campbell-Lawton, lent their support at their local Age UK Christmas party. Age UK supports older people across the UK to live healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives through their network of local centres, providing those in need with a variety of care including bereavement support, benefits advice, dementia awareness training, and more. During the party, Anna and Sharon assisted the attendees into the venue, sold bingo cards and raffle tickets, and handed out quizzes. They mingled and chatted with guests to ensure they felt welcome, supported, and enjoyed the event. Anna told us, “It was a pleasure and an honour to support such a great charity doing so much for our older community.” Sharon added, “As an office we wanted to help with any local community events, and overall, myself and the team at the Gateshead office have supported two charities with Christmas events through Community Connect.” #community #volunteering #socialimpact

𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 The latest PwC Green Jobs Barometer found a 9% increase in green job adverts in 2024, despite an overall 22.5% contraction in the overall UK job market. Around one in five jobs are expected to be significantly affected by this transition, but it is likely that few people will be unaffected by the need to learn new skills and ways of working. As the need for green skills becomes more urgent, we now have a much clearer picture of what needs to be done – and the gaps and barriers we need to close and overcome. One of the clearest roadblocks is that we don’t have enough skilled trades people, such as electricians and heating engineers. That is why Reed in Partnership is working with our training partner, OEA - Oxford Energy Academies, to support people to do electrical and plumbing apprenticeships at our two energy academies. Apprenticeships are essential in plugging the skills gap in these trades, because it is important that people are fully qualified to ensure safety and quality. Head of Policy and Research Sarah Welfare takes a look at the role that Reed in Partnership is playing in supporting the green skills transition – and the new Social Market Foundation research on apprenticeships. ⭐ 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 - 𝗠𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀 & 𝗕𝘂𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 Our funded employability services provide an important solution to labour and skills shortages facing the UK, providing employers with access to economically inactive or unemployed people in their area and supporting their training and onboarding. An example of this in practice is our relationship with Mitchells & Butlers PLC, one of the UK’s largest operators of restaurants, pubs and bars. The company owns brands including All Bar One, Harvester, O’Neill’s and Toby Carvery. Since our partnership began last year, we have been working collaboratively to match them with suitable job-seeking candidates, helping to fill a number of vacancies and supporting their strong trading performance. We’ve successfully placed over 60 jobseekers into work with Mitchells & Butlers in both front and back of house roles through our tailored approach which includes specialised in-house training and interview events. Carly Clark, Resourcing Capability Manager at Mitchells & Butlers, said: "Our collaboration with Reed in Partnership has felt like a journey of mutual growth and shared values. Together, we've not only achieved successful placements but also improved individuals’ wellbeing and lives, while promoting diversity and inclusion within the workforce. Collaborating with employability providers is key to fostering sustainable employment and by working together, we create opportunities that build lasting careers and strengthen our community." Reed in Partnership has worked with more than 25,000 recruiting businesses. 96% of the employers we’ve worked with said they would use our recruitment services again. As our employability services are government-funded, our recruitment is fully funded and cost free.
