About us
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Institute (WASH Institute) is a registered NGO established in 2008 in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. WASH Institute is a technical, training, research and development organization dedicated to providing practical solutions to tackle a wide range of water, sanitation and hygiene issues in India. The organization is a sector partner of National Jal Jeevan Mission. Over the years, WASH Institute has carved its niche in the field of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene as an expert through its quality training programs, Technical Assistance to the Government of India, grassroots programs, and research & advocacy. Currently, WASH Institute is providing Technical Assistance to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) on Swachh Bharat Mission. In addition, it is also providing Technical Assistance to the Ministry of Jal Shakti on SBM-Gramin and Jal Jeevan Mission. WASH Institute has also been providing access to improved WASH services to marginalized communities and schools by implementing grassroots level CSR projects across 17 locations in 9 states namely Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Haryana, West Bengal, Karnataka, Assam and Uttar Pradesh. WASH Institute also has an academic wing that conducts formal courses at Reddiarchatram, Tamil Nadu in affiliation with Madurai Kamaraj University. The Institute has a proven record of accomplishment in organizing National Workshops/conferences on various themes of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene. In 2018, WASH Institute was conferred with a National Level Award organized by India Today for “Best Institute on Sanitation Skill”. The organization has also been honoured with a National Level Award by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India on “Technology Challenge for identifying and promoting solutions for cleaning and maintenance of septic tanks which eliminates the need for human entry”. In January 2020, WASH Institute was awarded by FICCI under Water Initiatives.

🌊 Empowering Future Leaders in #Water #Management! 🌍 The SCMS Water Institute (SWI), in partnership with the Water Sanitation and Hygiene Institute (WASH Institute), successfully completed the First Batch of the "Certificate Course on Water and #Wastewater Quality Analysis" from November 18 to 28, 2024, at SSET. This 10-day program brought together 27 participants from diverse backgrounds, including faculty members, health inspectors, SHG members, and students. Participants gained hands-on experience with critical water quality parameters such as pH, BOD, COD, and advanced methods like flame photometry. A field visit to the Regional Analytical Laboratory, Ernakulam, organized with the support of Director Dharmalashri IAS, offered practical exposure to real-world applications. The course concluded with a valedictory session led by Dr. V. Kurian Baby IAS, Former Secretary to the Government of Kerala and an International Water Expert. His address emphasized the critical role of trained professionals in achieving sustainable water resource management. This initiative not only provided participants with advanced technical skills but also inspired them to contribute to sustainable development and empower their communities in addressing water quality challenges.
