About us
The Tampa Repertory Theatre believes in the experience of theatre — that theatre is the place we go to see how we live our lives in meaningful (and sometimes not so meaningful) ways. TampaRep presents classics, known and unknown, with a special emphasis on American plays of the 20th and 21st centuries. We create an experience — one that the audience completes — in productions that are innovative, provocative, and classic. TampaRep is an incorporated professional, nonprofit 501(c)(3) theatre company serving the Tampa area since 2011. TampaRep’s first production took place in July, 2011 — Alcestis, a Greek tragedy by Euripides. During our first year, we produced Cold Storage and celebrated our one-year anniversary with a production of A Streetcar Named Desire. TRT2, TampaRep’s incubator company, also presented three productions: Musings of a “Postmodern” Romantic, Tartuffe, and Tampa Wrights: One-Act Plays by Tampa Playwrights. Now entering our sixth season, we have continued to present a mix of plays, from the classic (Hamlet) to the contemporary (Silent Sky), along with our American focus, notably with a series of plays by Tennessee Williams: Streetcar, The Glass Menagerie, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and last season’s production of Eugene O’Neill’s The Iceman Cometh. TRT2 has evolved into Conversation Starters, staged readings of new plays, co-produced with Creative Loafing. which focus on newer, edgier fare. It’s what we do. TampaRep: Innovative. Provocative. Classic.
