You want to build a team that is focused on customer satisfaction. What's the first step?
The research is clear, people enjoy helping others. In many organizations that I've seen, a material challenge is that the support team, as well as others in the organization, don't deeply understand their customers. Modern large or remote businesses separate the teams from the ground level realities of how their customers use their products and what competing issues are present. A great example was a support team that worked in a hospital setting. It wasn't until they toured the operating room that they realized why their requests for a nurse to reboot a PC wasn't done. The system was bolted to the ceiling 12 feet off the ground. An investment in getting your team to understand your customers unlocks endless benefits.

You want to build a team that is focused on customer satisfaction. What's the first step?
Every product or service fits into their customers lives in some way, it helps them to do something. Customer satisfaction isn't the score, it's an internal sense of positivity that your brand helped them do what they wanted to do. In defining the customer experience vision, move beyond the vision of the experience you're building, to a customer centered vision on who your customers are, and what they're trying to accomplish. REI is a great example as they're vision is to help get their members (they're a Coop) outside. This clarity on the people is hard in the face of metrics and processes, but oh so important. Keeping the humanity at the center of your vision not only helps your customers, but also the team.
