Joan K. Norton Announces Continued Support of Northeast Animal Shelter
Donation Funds Medical Care and Transportation to No-Kill Shelter for 250 Adoptable Pets
SALEM, Mass., July 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Joan K. Norton today announced that year-to-date, her charitable contribution in the amount of $20,000 to the Northeast Animal Shelter (NEAS) has funded transportation for 250 animals and their associated medical care as part of NEAS' Saving Homeless Pets Across America program. Started in 1994, the initiative brings adoptable pets from across the country to the NEAS' adoption center in Salem, MA where they are matched with loving families.
Based in Salem, MA and established in 1976, the Northeast Animal Shelter is one of New England's largest non-profit, no-kill animal shelters. In nearly 40 years, NEAS has placed over 120,000 cats and dogs. NEAS is committed to a no-kill policy, to saving the lives of more adoptable homeless pets each year, and to the expanding the organization's outreach programs.
Laurie McCannon, Director of Operations with the Northeast Animal Shelter, said, "We are incredibly grateful for the generosity that Joan Norton has displayed through her contribution to NEAS. Joan's charitable gift comes at a critical time, as 2014 was an exceptionally busy and rewarding year. With the help of donors such as Joan, along with adopters, volunteers, staff and friends, NEAS saved 4,397 homeless dogs, puppies, cats and kittens by placing them with caring individuals and families.
"We are experiencing an equally challenging year thus far in 2015. In particular we expect to exceed what we accomplished in 2014 through the Saving Homeless Pets Across America program, which enabled us to bring 3,072 homeless dogs, puppies, cats and kittens to NEAS from as far away as Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia, where no-kill shelters are unavailable," concluded Ms. McCannon.
Joan Norton said, "It's an immense privilege to be able to provide assistance to such a humane and effectively managed charitable organization as the Northeast Animal Shelter. NEAS' outreach programs have a huge impact not only on the local community it serves in Salem, MA, but throughout the country as well. Pets are wonderful companions, and I am extremely proud to contribute to NEAS and its ongoing mission of locating a loving home for each and every animal the Shelter cares for."
