Course Objectives:

  • Developing Spatial Relationships. Through identifying and categorizing different shapes, students will better understand and interpret spacial relationships in the world around them.
  • Developing Observational Skills. Paying attention to the characteristics of shapes, such as the number of sides and corners will enhance children’s observational skills.

Outcomes:

  • Ability to name common plane shapes like squares, triangles, and circles
  • Ability to count in order without missing or over counting
  • Preparation for admission into top private schools

Course Objectives:

  • Enhancing mental arithmetic abilities
  • Foundational preparation for understanding more complex concepts such as multiplication and division in later years

Outcomes:

  • A developed number sense and understanding of quantity
  • A strong math foundation before transitioning into a more structured learning stage of math

Common Challenges:

  • Unable to establish direct connections between mathematics and life
  • Hard to quickly find and apply patterns in solving problems
  • Difficulty constructing long logic chains

Our Approach:

  • Gamified teaching
  • Verifying conclusions through practical exploration, enhancing a sense of achievement in students using a hands-on approach
  • Simultaneously improving spacial cognition and logical deduction abilities through a single problem

Class info: Algebra 1 Advanced, Arithmetic Sequence and Geometric Sequence

Knowledge Difficulty: Challenging topic in Algebra 1 Curriculum

Challenge: Students need to understand the formula to find sum of arithmetic sequence.

Our Approach:

  • Teachers explain the definition of an arithmetic sequence.
  • Visualization is used to demonstrate adding two identical sequences.
  • Students derive the formula using the area formula of rectangles.
  • This helps students apply the formula in the future.

Class info: Geometry Honors, Application of Similar Triangles (Geometric Mean Theorem)

Knowledge Difficulty: AMC10 Geometry Topics

Challenge: Students need to identify the model of Geometric Mean Theorem and apply its formula to solve lengths.

Our Approach:

  • The teacher will guide students to identify all similar triangles formed when an altitude is drawn to the hypotenuse of a right triangle.
  • Students will practice using the ratios in similar triangles.
  • The teacher will derive the general formula with the students.
  • Animation and annotation will aid in better understanding and memorization of the theorem.
