Great Airshow. Sucky organization. They lost control of the parking situation and no one seemed to know what they were doing. Got yelled at twice for parking in the vendor / staff area but was directed to do so by two people despite me pointing it out.
The show was spectacular and the demo teams did a fantastic job. There were way more vendors than static displays but hey we are here to see planes in the air not on the ground.
The evening show was fantastic and its the first time I have attended one. It made photography dicey as it got dark and at one point I was shooting at ISO 25600 just to get a decent shutter speed

I have been attending this airshow since 06 and it never fails to disappoint. The airshow organizers and volunteers never fail to disappoint and you can tell they try to improve and consider our feed back every year. This year was by far one of the best airshows I've been to and a lot of people I invited (first timers) were very impressed and are already amped for next years show in March. From the show itself , to the volunteers , the food , the displays , the organization when it comes to parking everything is carefully thought out and performed. Great events for families and people of all ages and backgroun

For context, I am a pilot, aircraft owner, and I worked as a design engineer on military aircraft. I've attended airshows every year for years. There's no such thing as a bad airshow, especially where the Thunderbirds are involved. They're consistently outstanding. My review has nothing to do with the flying. It's about the show management.
There were several areas of poor airshow organization this year.
The organizers relied on real-time communication over e-mail and the Net to inform attendees when the flying would start. I drove 200 miles to get to the show and once there, the server was so overwhelmed I couldn't download the latest update.
It was also ambiguous as to when the gates opened, and where to go. I arrived early and a show official in a truck with flashing lights told me the show started at 5:30PM. It was 3PM when he told me that! I sat in my car and watched a stream of cars with drivers confused as to where to go. Several of them stopped to ask me for information.
On a personal note, in the 100 degree heat, I left my chair at the show to go to my car to get water, eat, and cool off. On the way out, my hand was stamped. Two of the ushers told me I could bypass the long entrance line and re-enter with my hand stamp in a separate entrance to the right of the main entrance with its long line of arriving people.
I returned only to hear a person standing at the re-entry area security table rather forcefully tell me I had to go the main admission line again! (aside from the conflicting information, what's the point of stamping if you have to start all over again to get in?)
I asked another pair of ushers who said there was a re-entry line to the LEFT of the main entrance. I walked there. No re-entry line.
After wading through the wait to get back in, I mentioned the misinformation I was given and one of the show officials told me to my face: "You were told to go back to the main entrance line because you might have gone to your car and put something in your bag."
I happen to be Black.
I smiled and did not respond. I got my chair and left the show. For the record, my bag, a small camera bag was not inspected when I first arrived, or when I went through the main gate a second time.
Here's the thing: When I left the airshow, I passed a man dressed in BDUs (Battle Dress Uniform). He asked me -- I can't make this up: "Would you like your hand stamped?" I showed him my stamp already given. I asked, would this allow me to get back in without going through the main line? His answer: "Yes!"
It was a weird day. There's no such thing as a bad airshow, but this incident surfaced a thing that most people don't understand. It's a hurtful thing. It is when we're treated in a way that causes us to question whether it's just bad organization, or did I just get treated this way because of my race? Did I really look threatening enough to deny re-entry, or to cause an official to make such an unfortunate comment about inspecting my bag?Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - TsvoricRancho Cordova, CA0217Jul 14, 2024Updated review
The second time I went to the show and it was the best thing I've seen. And fireworks and 500 drones are absolutely wonderful.

Let me start by saying I love this show. My family and I have enjoyed attending this event for years.
There is no shade or seating, unless you are a vip, so you need to come prepared. Sunscreen, lawn chairs and a good pair of kicks are recommend. You are allowed to bring in coolers, but they will be checked at the entrance. If you don't pack a lunch, no worries they have food trucks available. They have plenty of portable potties, but no restrooms.
Sadly 2022 wasn't as good as it could have been. A $40 dollar per adult admission is a bit steep for me, even when the show is at its best.
Regardless, I will continue to go because I love this event and aviation.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 1, 2021
This was our first time at an air show. We bought the more expensive tickets which allow for a good sized area around your vehicle where you can set up chairs etc. Since there is no food available for purchase we brought a cooler. That worked out well. You must also bring your own chairs unless you plan on sitting in your car (not recommended).
To be honest entry was a disorganized mess. There are people directing you to the general area of where you need to park but after that it's a free for all. Traffic slows to a crawl because people are expecting someone to guide them to a spot. Finally we all realized we just park wherever there's space. There are no markings on the ground to denote the spaces (probably because this is an active runway immediately before and after the show).
The actual show was really good! Very impressive jets and other planes. The big rig with the jet on the back was very cool. You must bring hearing protection for everyone in your party. There is a jet that flies by right overhead so quickly you won't have time to put your earplugs back in. AirPods Pro worked well for this.
The people in the front row immediately in front of us became very upset when people would walk into their "area" and almost got into a fight with some stubborn men. It's unfortunate people can't just enjoy an air show. We had to keep our group's kids from running into their area.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Oct 7, 2019
Aerial thrills - up close - nothing else compares!
First time at the airshow! We had an amazing time at the California Capital Airshow yesterday. Since it was our first time attending one we weren't sure what time the airshow started. The program stated 9:00a to 5:00p so we got there at 9:00a but the aerial performances didn't actually start until noon to 4:00p. We rode the tram to take us to the upgraded seating section at the Mather Club.
Our friends made this a thrilling and unforgettable experience for us and gifted us with tickets to Sunday's airshow. Thanks for the gracious treat, Anthony Z and Crystal. Hubby & I and my mom had an amazing time. The forecast was an 80° weekend.
Before the show started we walked around and checked out the planes on the ground exhibit. From modern military fighter jets like the F/A-18F Super Hornets, F-15C Eagle, F-35 Lightnings, F-16 Fighting Falcons to awesome warbirds and bombers: Mustangs, Lightning, Hellcat, Bearcat, Thunderbolt, Mitchell, Texan, Superfortress, Skymaster. We climbed inside a KC-10 Extender (and told my nephew, a boom operator, all about it). The famous bright blue-and-yellow jets were impressive to see. We have two airmen in our family and three in the army including my niece as a combat medic and another nephew in the infantry.
The Blue Angels were truly impressive. It was low, it was fast and it was loud. I got goose bumps just watching these F/A-18 Hornets fly in formation as close as 18 inches apart! Amazing to see! While I was in awe with all the performances it was the The Aftershock Jet Fire truck that was really fun to watch! Imagine this truck roaring down the runway powered by over 24,000 horsepower at an amazing 407 MPH! Whoa! it really is the fastest fire truck in the world!
The sound system was great and speakers were placed evenly to where we were able to hear the narrators perfectly. The music was fun and the roars of the planes were loud as feelings of patriotism of our homeland's military strength gave me a sense of pride!
Thank you to our friends, Anthony & Crystal, for an awesome Sunday Funday at the airshow!

It was my family's first time to attend an airshow, and the California Capital Airshow did not disappoint!
From the static displays around the grounds, to the acrobatics from the Patriot Parachute Team, to the various flight demonstrations, and to the aerial show put on by the Blue Angels, the experience was just simply amazing! We got upgraded tickets for the show and that was worth the money we paid for! Seating in the shade, great variety of food, and an unlimited supply of water or lemonade! Plus an upgraded toilet facility for your use. If ever they put on a show again in the future, I would recommend getting upgraded tickets! Well worth it!
We came in at around 9:00 and started going around the static aircraft and vehicle displays. A lot of knowledgeable people from the civilian, government and military to explain the "booths". Photo opportunities abound! There was also a lot of stores around selling merchandise or food. Food was served in our upgraded section at around 11:00 and the aerial shows started at 12:00, with the Blue Angels closing off from 3:00 to around 4:00. That left around an hour for doing final views of the ground displays before the grounds closed at 5:00. Wish they would've allowed an extra hour more for viewing.
Great experience for my family. Will surely do this again next time!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Danipal B.Novato, CA133278Sep 25, 2021
The most boring air show I have ever been to, nothing special, just from 10 am till the end someone on the microphone keeps talking loud, the show was most boring, I rather set in my balcony to see an airplane fly, that all it was with few boring effects.

My first visit to air show. What a loud and awesome experience. Crystal and myself shared the day with May, Jr and Mom. It was their 1st time as well. We were fortunate to be able to sit in the Mather VIP section. Plenty of shade and a clear view of open skies as each performance played out
We enjoyed a quick bite to eat and washed it down with a few glasses of wine. Lots of exhibits to enjoy. C130 on display which brings back my military memories
We will definitely be back next year....Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0
