Sitting at the bar is where I do second drafts and editing. Love the burgers and chatting with the owner Mike DeLeo.
Heather Holland Wheaton
Alcone Company
I love Alcone for all things makeup. They have everything you could possibly need for stage or every day. I sometimes drop in on my way to the theater see what’s new or to grab a product I’m out of, and everyone that works there is so kind and extremely knowledgeable!
Joseph London
Urban Hawker
We like the variety of ethnic foods in Singapore, but for a similar mix of cuisines, Urban Hawker is a lot closer. For a rare New York experience, you can get there by meandering along a landscaped series of mid-block alleys between 6th and 7th Avenues.
Hal Glatzer
Mémé Mediterranean
This is a fun place to take out of towners and to celebrate birthdays. The food is fresh and delicious, with very attentive service.
Richard Damien
Ariana Afghan Restaurant
I’ve been coming here with my family ever since I can remember and we’ve developed a lovely friendship with the owner, Wali. He’s the best and truly makes incredible food. Get the firnee for dessert!

Framing on 9th
Our apartment is decorated with beautiful posters – film, theater, and travel – and Mike at 9th Avenue Framing does an amazing job of showcasing each one. I’ve brought him challenging things I’ve found at flea markets and secondhand stores all over the world (a Turkish poster for the Barbra Streisand movie A Star Is Born was particularly challenging!) and he makes each one look like a million bucks…for a very reasonable price.

Finn's Bagels
Delicious spot for a weekend bagel and coffee before a walk along the High Line.
Mark Sanderlin
Amy's Bread
Cute small business I love supporting for a sweet treat, delicious homemade breads or a yummy cake for a special event.

Claudio's Pizza
I have to imagine I’m the 100th+ person to mention Claudio’s. I’ve been raised on it since day one but I still bring all my friends visiting from out of town here. Quintessentially good NY pizza.
Evan Crommett
Columbus Library NYPL
I mentioned that I love to read, and the NYPL is such an underused resource – and one that’s unfortunately in danger of going away. You can get almost any book in the world, for free, and they even have e-books and audiobooks now too. Plus, it’s a great community space. Last checkout: 10:04 by Ben Lerner. Loved it.
