They have just refused to pay out for x-ray costs on my dog because she had a limp 2yrs ago when she was 6 months old 🤬🤬
That's £600 I can ill afford just before Christmas!

They increased our pet insurance price 83% after one year. When I called to ask, they said that they have no idea how much price would increase the following year and that customer should expect "some form of increase". Our pet has been perfectly healthy with no claims. These insurance companies are the biggest scammer.
91% increase this year with one small claim last year which took ages to clear. Waste of time and money. They will find any excuse to increase the premium. It's an emotive purchase hense they just think you will roll over and accept it. When you request justification they can't give good and honest reasons for the increase.
It's all for profit and the satisfaction of the shareholders. Insurance blah blah blah.
absolute scam artists.Could potentially lead to the death of our animal just because he had an MRI which was fine after that price hike of 300% despite them being up because of 4 years of no problems or claims. making it unaffordable and if we reinsure with some one else they will class it as a pre existing problem. Buyer Beware
I'm writing this review to warn other pet owners about our experience with with 4PAWS. We purchased a policy for our beloved Maltipoo Toby, believing it would provide financial security in case of unexpected illness. Unfortunately, that turned out not to be the case.
Toby was sick once and had diarrhea which was the main issue in August 2023. We promptly took them to the vet, who diagnosed a bug with anti-biotics and a pro-biotic to settle his stomach, Toby made a full recovery and showed no further signs of the condition and was never prescribed any conditions and illness. Reassured, we continued with switching our pet insurance policy to 4Paws.
Fast forward to recently, when Toby experienced a completely new illness in December 2013, vomiting regularly with blood and no diarrhea . We submitted a claim, confident our insurance would help. However, to our utter disappointment, 4PAWS denied the claim! Their justification? They classified Toby vomiting once in August 2023 as a pre-existing condition, despite the vet's documentation of a full recovery, recommendation that it was not linked due to no recurring symptoms and that medication worked which hasn't to date. The original condition was successfully treated and wasn't a chronic issue.
Now, we're facing a significant vet bill for a completely unrelated illness. Their customer service has been unhelpful, slow and impersonal throughout this ordeal. We feel completely let down by a company that supposedly cares about pets.
If you're looking for pet insurance that will actually cover you, avoid 4 Paws at all costs! Look for a company with a clear and transparent policy on pre-existing conditions, and one that prioritizes customer service. Don't make the same mistake we did.

Don't use this company
Although the women assistants I dealt with were lovely the company itself is awful and rejects your insurance claim for spurious reasons.
I was told by my vet practice that this company are known to be difficult and reject claims which other companies honour

Totally unprofessional
Totally unprofessional, robbing their customers, inventing unreasonable justifications for not paying for a treatment by referring to unrelated words from the vet notes. Think twice before buying their insurance.

This company are absolutely f***ing…
This company are absolutely f***ing rubbish. Unfortunately I'm stuck with them because I was with them when my dog had a cancerous lump removed otherwise I would have left them long ago! Still haven't settled my claim from August when said dog had an operation to remove 3 lumps which turned out to be benign. Now they're trying to say I need to make 3 separate claims for each lump because they were different types of benign, meaning they want me to pay my excess 3 times and lose out on at least £350 even though they were removed in one operation! Absolutely disgusting.

Premium increased almost 200% in two years then difficulty cancelling.
Premium increased from £17 a month, to £31 and then to £51. When I provided my policy number and indicated that I wished to cancel the policy they refused to do so without the email address I had provided two years ago.
They assured me that I would receive a phone call to address the issue which wasn't forthcoming. I had to cancel the direct debit.

I have just received my renewal and it’s gone up to £120 odd quid a month despite my dogs main health issue being excluded as preexisting. Absolute joke. I’ve given three stars as they have been pretty good at paying out for my other dog

they seem good with their teaser offer then as soon as you claim once the prices skyrocket year after year untill they price you out. been with them 3 years, only time i claimed was in the second year once. price went up £20 p/m thought fair enough, 3rd year no claims up another £270 a year. to nearly a £1000. the one claim came to that. policy is only for £4k. what a joke. Sharks . stay clear

Disappointingly Uncompetitive Quote
Recommended by a rescue fosterer. Tried to arrange cover, but found the options very expensive for my rescue dog. Comparatively dear premiums, plus high excess, plus 30% contribution towards each claim. Found much better deals elsewhere.

Excellent service
I would definitely recommend this company. Excellent service with no quibbles about paying out. We had a very poorly dog and it was all dealt with compassionately.

DO NOT use 4 Paws pet insurance
DO NOT take out pet insurance using this company!
They completely ignored the information provided by my vet about the date something happened and then tried to do some dodgy maths saying that it had happened before the date it actually did. Then they sent a follow up email saying either way they weren't paying out. It was very rude and basically refused to look further into the details and just outright denied our claim. (Which the vet assured us would be covered on insurance).
They still haven't paid out and it has cost us nearly £1000 for sh-ite insurance and the treatment. Could have saved myself £300 if I had just paid outright for the treatment rather than throwing it away on insurance which apparently wont cover anything.
Many people had told me not to bothered getting pet insurance because it is always crap, but I wanted to be covered from when we first got out kitten so he would be covered for his whole life...
My advice to people considering pet insurance, DON'T especially if you are thinking about using 4 Paws.

My first annual renewal quote arrived
My first annual renewal quote arrived. I've made no claims and my three year old dog is well. The premium has gone up by a staggering 26% and they now in addition charge an administration fee. I've tried phoning them three times and gave up after holding for over fifteen minutes. I have emailed them, but have received no reply. Two days ago I sent this:
PET/W/57202178/PREM
I was cold called earlier this morning by one of your agents at an inconvenient time when I was in a meeting. I have since received an email detailing your proposed charges for renewal of my pet insurance.
I have tried phoning you without success. I could not get a reply.
This year’s quote is for £367.05 plus a £10 ‘administration fee’
This is a 26% increase on last year’s premium, levied at a time when there is virtually no inflation. At this rate the premium will more than double every three years, so that if my dog, currently three years old, lives to be, say, 15 with this annual increase in premium I will by then be paying you approaching £6000 a year. That is ridiculous.
This is an egregious example of the nefarious ‘loyalty penalty’. You will be aware that the FCA is currently investigating this practice. If you are not so aware, you should be. It is likely that in the near future you will be prevented from ripping off existing customers in this fashion.
I also object strongly to paying what you call an ‘administration fee’. That is a deliberately misleading way of you further racking up the premium under the guise of doing something that you have to do anyway. I am not prepared to pay this £10.
You say in your email :
“You should check that the levels of cover offered by this renewal meets your needs and you may wish to compare the prices and levels of cover offered by alternative providers. If you have been with us for a number of years, you may be able to get the insurance cover you want at a better price if you shop around”
Naturally I have done this. And you are right. There is a wide range of policies available offering as good or better cover than yours at a much lower price.”
In conclusion, if you want to keep me as a customer, you will have to waive the ridiculous ‘administration’ fee and, more importantly, offer a competitive premium.
If you can’t do that, so be it. I’m off.
I look forward to your reply, which I will be publishing in Google comments and other review sites under a copy of this email

They have not bothered to reply. A shame. Last year they were competitive. Now they are trying to rip me off. I'm making one last try to contact them by phone but already been holding for over fifteen minutes. What a crazy business policy. Tesco, John Lewis and many others provide a better deal, so I'm off.
UPDATE: after holding on for a long time, I got through to someone called Jericho. He was not helpful. They will not waive the administration fee as they 'charge this to everyone to cover admin costs'. Hmmm. He will not negotiate on the premium increase and could not offer a satisfactory explanation for it. He did say that sometimes the renewal premium might go down, but couldn't tell me how often that has happened in the past. He asked if I wanted a reply to my email. Of course I do. In the meantime, I'm changing companies

I have always found 4paws very helpful
I have always found 4paws very helpful. I have made several claims over the past 12 months for my dogs slipped disc, until this I had never made a claim before. Everything was handled very efficiently and I was kept informed all the way. I have my other dog insured with them and would definitely recommend them.

Phoned 4 paws to make sure my dogs treatment was covered and I asked as it was an ongoing problem once the vet had finished the treatment then could we make a claim ,as it turned out I was nearing the end of first year and they processed a claim without my consent and paid out £1.27 which was what was left of the vet bill after they took there excess .and then was told if I wanted to claim again as it was a new year I would have to pay another years excess .
