  • 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀™ 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀™ 𝗚𝗲𝗻 𝟯: 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 A shovel tooth that goes missing can jam a crusher disabling it for hours or even days at a time costing a mine tens of thousands of dollars in lost productivity and creating a major safety event. The Motion Metrics™ missing tooth detection system runs continuously day and night to monitor the bucket teeth on shovels. Without any operator effort, the system uses real-time audible and visual alerts to inform the shovel operator of possible broken teeth, adapters, and even lip shrouds. The ShovelMetrics Gen 3 system uses a high-resolution 3D bucket camera with rugged LED lighting for nighttime operation. ShovelMetrics works with cable shovels, mining hoes and face shovels. The missing tooth detection system automatically monitors the condition of the bucket teeth 24/7. During every machine pass ShovelMetrics Gen 3 system monitors the bucket teeth and analyzes the situation with its video algorithm. When GET loss is detected, an alarm occurs in the cab as well as in the MetricsManager™ Pro dashboard along with time-stamped photos and video clips which can be reviewed by in-pit and remote operators to verify the missing GET and notify dispatch. All logs that are captured are automatically uploaded to a secure data collection platform where authorized personnel can review incident reports on demand. • Growing up, Juan Parra was fast. So fast, that he was invited to run with the Mexican National team on their way to the Olympics. But, when it came down to it, Juan’s parents gave him a life-defining choice—he had to choose between running and engineering. In 1978 Juan graduated from the Universidad de Guanajuato with a degree in mining engineering that eventually led him to a successful career with the ESCO division of Weir. In his distinguished 39 years of service, Juan did not just make a name for himself as a renowned global sales leader, but he accepted other roles as friend, go-getter and the ultimate team player. Because of this, it is bittersweet that we wish Juan well as he embarks on a new journey in retirement, beginning 2 January 2025. Since joining ESCO in 1986, Juan has played a critical role in supporting regional fabrication investments, developing relationships with key mining customers, and expanding our markets in Brazil, Mexico and across Latin America. His skill and expertise helped him grow in his career from inside and outside sales to sales manager and eventually to regional managing director. No matter his role, Juan has always been committed to supporting our customers and the success of our organization. Recently, that same expertise and commitment earned him high praise among his peers during a global leadership conference this December. ESCO senior leaders from around the globe recognized Juan for his unwavering dedication and service to his role and colleagues. And, while Juan spent the better part of his nearly four decades of working to serve ESCO’s customers, he also made time to have a bit of fun and rekindle his love of running. Juan was always happy to lace up his sneakers and join colleagues in local community races. He even joined a few Hood to Coast teams, running a well-known Portland, Oregon, annual relay spanning 195 miles from Mount Hood to the Oregon Coast. As expected, even in retirement, Juan does not plan to slow down any time soon. He is looking forward to new adventures, most notably an excursion to Europe where he plans to hike the Camino de Santiago. Translated to “The Way of St. James,” the Camino de Santiago is a vast network of ancient pilgrim routes, with the most common trail extending 500 miles (780 kilometers) from France to Spain. Happy trails, Juan! Please join us in congratulating Juan on this impressive milestone and for his service to the ESCO division and our customers. Thank you and congratulations, Juan! #Weir #ESCO #Retirement
