Mission Statement
Founded in 1904, Moorestown Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) is a non-profit agency providing home health care, and wellness services to the residents of Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties in NJ. Our mission is to provide home and community-based health care services that promote optimum quality of life, independence, and dignity; to teach people to care for themselves and each other; and to provide skilled home care, and hospice services to patients in need regardless of their ability to pay.
About This Cause
In 1904, Mary Sumner proposed the idea for what would become the VNA of the Women’s Club of Moorestown. Home care quickly proved its worth both to individuals in need and within public health. The first registered nurses of Moorestown VNA made their home visits year-round by foot; it was not until 1918 that the Association bought its first car. Moorestown VNA legally incorporated in 1932. As the purpose of public health nursing moved away from the traditional realm of “care for the sick poor,” Moorestown VNA expanded steadily to include school nursing, dental and venereal disease clinics, and rehabilitation. Always innovators in the field of public health, Moorestown VNA pioneered the Well-Baby Clinic in 1938, promoted mass immunization for polio, and sponsored early campaigns for the detection of breast cancer beginning in 1951. Moorestown VNA became fully certified for Medicare in 1967 and undertook a corporate reorganization to accomplish the goal of accepting managed care referrals to remain responsive to the community. In 2001, Moorestown VNA expanded its home care services to include The Hospice of Moorestown VNA. Moorestown VNA is the areas only provider for behavioral health care at home, bringing mental health nurses directly into the homes of those needing evaluation and support. In 2006, the agency launched Camp Firefly, an overnight support program for children coping with grief. Moorestown Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) is remarkable for its enduring presence within the ever-changing landscape of modern healthcare. Unique among home health care and community wellness agencies, Moorestown VNA offer the communities we serve three specialized areas of service. Home Care and Community Health and Wellness, together makeup the family of services offered by our non-profit organization. Innovators in the field, we offer telehealth monitoring to cardiac patients, the only behavioral home health care service in South Jersey. We consistently look to the community to identify health issues and demand for services and shape our programs to accommodate those community needs.
