A little history about Lizano Salsa

We receive lots of great questions about what is Lizano Salsa.  One common mistake is the translation of "Salsa" in Costa Rica means "Sauce.  (Like A-1 sauce, in Costa RIca it would be called A-1 Salsa).  DOn't confuse it with Mexico's "Salsa"  to mean hot and spicy.
I grabbed this from the wikipedia website.
Salsa Lizano, known in English as "Lizano Sauce" (Salsa means "sauce" in Spanish), is a Costa Rican condiment developed in 1920 by the Lizano Company.  It is a thin, smooth, light brown sauce. It is meant to be used while cooking or — popularly — at tableside to flavor one's food when serving. It is slightly sweet with a hint of spiciness lent by black pepper and cumin.
The ingredients include watersugarsaltvegetables (onions, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers), spices, acetic acidpepperstarch, hydrolyzed corn protein, mustardturmericsodium benzoatesodium bisulfite, andsulfur dioxide.
Many Costa Rican dishes are prepared with Salsa Lizano, and it is ubiquitous on restaurant tables in its country of origin. It is commonly used with gallo pinto and tamales, and is also considered particularly complementary with eggs, rice, beans, cheese, curries, and as a marinade for meat.
Salsa Lizano is increasingly available commercially throughout The American Continent, including Costa Rican Store.

If you are looking for Costa RIcan recipes you can find them on our recipe page.

About Chantal at Costa Rican Store

Welcome to the Costa Rican Store, owned and operated by Chantal D'Larenti.

I started the Costa Rican Store in 2002 after falling in love with Costa Rica and marrying a Tico. (Tico is what you call men from Costa Rica; women are called Ticas.) My early love of Costa Rica grew the more I learned about the place, its people, and its food. The people are wonderful, welcoming friends, neighbors, and guests into their homes and offering delicious cups of coffee. Children are treasured because of the centrality of family. The food is amazingly fresh. And the sauces are deeply flavorful because the soil is so rich. With the combination of people, food, and beaches, you feel younger and more energetic in Costa Rica.

The Costa Rican Store lets me share a little of Costa Rica with you.

Living in Costa Rica allows me to get inventory out of the country faster. If anyone knows Costa Rica, its island nature is both a blessing and a curse. It is very laid back, which we all love, except when trying to run a business. So I work hard to ensure that everything comes to you quickly directly from Costa Rica.

I am here to build relationships with my customers because I want you to come back and continue to get your little bit of Costa Rican from me. I like to hear what other products I could add, or how I could do things better. I realize that the orders are sometimes gifts, so I try to create items that are ready to give when you receive them.

I do not take back orders because I want to spare you the frustration of thinking that the product you are ordering is available and on the way. I do not list products that are in transit. If it is listed, it is available for shipment.
I offer products at both wholesale and retail prices. Choose which is right for you and then start filling your shopping cart.

If there is a product you’d like to see added to my offerings, please email the Costa Rican Store atsales@costaricanstore.com <mailto:sales@costaricanstore.com> . Or call my toll free number at 866 MY TICOS (866-698-4267).
