Thanks to PRWeek's Jonathan Owen for including me in this line-up of industry leaders giving their predictions for public affairs in 2025. For me, it's a weak UK economy and international turmoil – from diplomatic tensions to trade friction – that will dominate 2025 for policymakers and public affairs professionals. I predict three trends. First, the consumer rules. Voter volatility means public opinion is front of mind for politicians. Issues quickly escalate to crisis and businesses can get caught up without careful reputation management. As Labour appeals to its core values, expect greater Government intervention, from workers rights to regulation. Second, AI and big tech moves will challenge policymakers and regulators, with consequences for traditional industries, competition and UK-US diplomacy. Our industry will need to adapt our working practices too. Third, impact is everything. Squeezed budgets mean public affairs needs to be data-driven and results-focused to demonstrate value. And... breathe. 2024 has been quite the year at Hanbury Strategy. I feel incredibly lucky to be working and leading a company that is going from strength to strength - with 2024 yet another year of double-digit growth for Hanbury. And that's against a backdrop of a change in UK Government, uncertainty and turbulence in the EU and the small matter of a US election. But this isn't just a numbers business, it's also about our brilliantly talented team. Thanks to them we've grown in ideas, ambition and the impact we have delivered for our clients. A few moments stand out: • Expanding our reach: We've had more client wins than previous years coupled with the highest renewal rate. Going that extra mile and exceeding expectations is a core Hanbury value. • Investing in our people: We've strengthened our team with senior Labour hires whilst simultaneously promoting our largest ever cohort of staff internally, thanks to a real focus on training and developing. • Delivering results that matter: Our unique partnership with our data squad at Stack Data Strategy gives us unique, world-class data-led insights which enhances our ability to turn insight into impact. Celebrating these achievements is important, as is the focus on 2025 and beyond. Next year we're determined to double down on our reputation for delivering excellence, deepen our client relationships and expand our impact by focusing on new areas for business development. All very exciting! To our clients, colleagues, and supporters: thank you for being part of the Hanbury journey so far. Your trust and collaboration inspire us to aim higher every day. And to anyone looking for a strategic partner to navigate 2025’s opportunities and challenges—I’d love to hear from you, please get in touch. Thank you!

For this year’s Christmas Jumper Day, it was great to see so many team members digging out their festive best to raise money for Magic Breakfast - a great charity we're proud to support that delivers free breakfasts to school children in England and Scotland. 🎄 As 2024 draws to a close, we want to wish all of our clients, colleagues and network a very happy Christmas and new year!

Meet one of London Zoo’s most recent additions: Hanbury the penguin! 🐧 Allow us to explain… The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) does incredibly important work as a conservation charity, working to restore wildlife in over 60 countries. When the future of its iconic Regent’s Park site of London Zoo was at risk, we wanted to help them on their mission to secure the site for the next generation of zoo visitors. We helped to secure a Private Members’ Bill to extend the lease and secure parliamentary support. But as the Bill was nearing completion, the snap General Election was called - and the Bill looked set to fall at the final hurdle. But, working with ZSL, we turbo-charged our efforts to get the Bill over the line in less than 24 hours. And together, we did it! In the last few hours of Parliament, the Bill became an Act of Parliament and the future of the site for the next 150 years was secured. It’s been a huge privilege to work on the project. And we were blown away when ZSL told us they wanted to name one of their newborn penguins after Hanbury to thank us for our support. As Lili C., who worked on the project said: "It’s one of our proudest and most wholesome outcomes in our eight years as an agency". A photo of penguin Hanbury is now hanging proudly on our wall. 🗞️ Read more about it in PRWeek UK and POLITICO's London Influence newsletter

Almost a billion people across the UK, the EU and the U.S. voted this year, with every country in NATO having gone to the polls. In an exclusive Pillsbury panel, London partner Matthew Oresman was joined by leading pollsters, data scientists, analysts and policy advisors to unpack the implications of 2024's global election super cycle. Many thanks to our panelists, Paul Stephenson (Hanbury Strategy), Gergley Polner (Forefront Advisers), Joe Slater (Stack Data Strategy) and Sudha David-Wilp (German Marshall Fund). We're delighted to welcome Keir Starmer's former foreign policy adviser Donjeta Miftari to the team. Donjeta brings a wealth of experience to Hanbury across communications and public affairs from her time in the No10 operation, working on the General Election campaign and her background in business communications. She's one of a host of great hires we've made in recent months, and we're always keen to hear from top talent working in communications and public affairs by connecting with us through our website. Well done to our Hanbury women's football team who recently took part in a five-a-side tournament hosted by Mastercard. Despite the freezing cold, the team made it through to the knockout stages after battling past the Financial Times, EY, Goldman Sachs and Mastercard, before ultimately losing out to the deserved winners PwC. Congratulations to all involved! #WomensFootball
