Our History
At Lakeside Industries, we are a family-owned and mission-driven company passionate about our culture. We have
worked hard to maintain a tight-knit community, dedicated to safety, customer experience, and quality. Coming from a
humble background in the hotel service industry, the Lee family built our company on what they knew best: being of
service to others. Our story starts in the 1950s:
1950s
1952: Rhoady Lee Jr. and his family purchased Lakeside Gravel Co., Inc, which operated aggregate and concrete sales operations in Bellevue and Issaquah, Washington
1960s
The Lees purchased Acme Paving in Redmond, WA in 1964, entering the asphalt paving business. In the same year, a heavy-civil construction company under the name Red-Samm Construction
Co was started. As Red-Samm grew, it operated in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Alaska, and Hawaii with offices in Redmond, WA and Juneau, AK.

1970s
In 1971, The Lees purchased Washington Asphalt Co., Inc. & Pacific Sand and Gravel Co. The two companies had asphalt plants in Seattle (Fremont), Everett, Issaquah, Woodinville, Lacey, Shelton, and Centralia, as well as two portable plants. Marine Asphalt Co., Inc. in Anacortes & Oak Harbor as well as B&K Paving in Kelso were acquired in 1976. In 1977, The Red-Samm Mining Co construction business and asphalt plants in southeast Alaska were sold. Joplin Paving in Monroe was purchased in 1978. The Lee Family started Valley Paving in Bellevue and Twin Falls, ID, in 1979.
1980s
Larry Darnell became President of Lakeside Industries in 1980. Acquisitions in the 1980s included Shotwell Paving in Port Angeles in 1982, Columbia River Paving in Vancouver, WA, in 1983, Columbia West in Portland, OR in 1983, and Interstate Asphalt in Aberdeen in 1984.
1990s
In 1990, Cadman Ready-Mix acquired ownership of all concrete operations in Issaquah and Bellevue. In 1991, Lakeside Industries purchased Whatcom Builders in Bellingham. In 1995, Lakeside appointed Tim Lee as President and Larry Darnell as Vice Chairman of the Board.
