The Irish Research Council was formally launched by the Minister for Research and Innovation, Seรกn Sherlock TD, on 29 March 2012. A sub-board of the Higher Education Authority, the Council was established through a merger of the Irish Research Council for Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS) and the Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology (IRCSET).
