JAMENDO

[Jamendo](http://www.jamendo.com) (est. 2004) is a pioneer of online independent music. The company emerged under the umbrella of Creative Commons, which gave the world an alternative to the de facto "all-rights reserved" copyright: Jamendo.com became the first music platform to use such licenses for users to listen and share music from any artists, legally and for free. Jamendo has grown rapidly in use and popularity ever since, crossing the threshold of 10,000 albums in 2008. It continued to... thrive and is now one of the biggest independent music platforms in the world, with more than 700,000 tracks available and a community of 45,000 DIY artists. Jamendo Music developed its own stand-alone identity as a free, independent music streaming service where artists can showcase their creations. To strike the right balance between free music sharing and creating a marketplace for its artists, Jamendo launched PRO in 2008, its first licensing program. Jamendo PRO made music available for synchronizing audiovisual projects (film, TV, advertising, web & corporate videos, video games, apps, etc.) and for background music in public places (stores, restaurants, hotels, etc.).
Jamendo PRO became Jamendo Licensing in 2014, the name by which it is known today. Over the years Jamendo has attracted investors who have ensured its development and ongoing viability.
