While many ballet academies get bogged down in the past, Joffrey Ballet School strives to balance tradition and innovation. Shortly after Robert Joffrey founded his company in 1953, it quickly became one of the premier ensembles in the United States. The Joffrey Technique emphasizes versatility and adaptability. In addition to classical and contemporary ballet, students train in jazz, modern, hip-hop and character. Joffrey Ballet School’s curriculum also includes courses in choreography, his... tory and music. In addition to the certificate program, which requires 3,450 hours of training, the school’s academics include a summer program and a course for young dancers. As a dance conservatory, Joffrey Ballet School’s admissions are based purely on auditions. The school holds regional auditions throughout the country, or you can submit a DVD application. If you audition in person, be sure to bring a 5x7 photo in first arabesque en l’air. Admissions decisions will be sent two weeks from your audition. Auditions for the summer program are similar, and can be done in person or by DVD. The young dancer program requires an audition only at the intermediate and advanced levels.
