Knight Ridder is an American media company that specializes in newspaper and internet publishing and advertising. Knight Ridder was the first newspaper publisher to experiment with videotex when it launched its Viewtron system in 1982. The company then invested in numerous newspapers, IT and technology companies, and television stations. These include PressLink, RealCities, WDSM-TV, Sun Herald, Philadelphia Daily News, The Times Leader, and more. As of December 25, 2005, the company published 32 daily and 65 non-daily newspapers. Knight Ridder was founded in 1933 by John S. Knight and is headquartered in San Jose, California. The company now operates as a subsidiary of The McClatchy Company.
