The $140B Flat Panel Display Industry consumes annually $10B of optical film polarizers that require costly, time consuming stretching or messy rubbing to align the coatings in the production process. To achieve ultra high definition resolutions, smartphones and HDTV’s are designed with smaller pixel apertures, which in turn reduce the display brightness. Our lyotropic liquid crystal materials eliminate these major bottlenecks, providing breakthrough, single layer, and thin, coatable polarizers either on substrates or directly on the cell eliminating the substrate using industry standard production processes. The result is a low cost, easy to make, high brightness polarizer that meets the market trends for ultra high resolutions displays.
