LUTHERAN SCHOOL OF NURSING

The hospital-based Lutheran School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri, offers a clinically oriented nursing education. Part of St. Alexius Hospital, Lutheran School of Nursing trains future registered nurses through its standard RN program and through its LPN to RN bridge program. In addition to intensive academic study, RN students undergo substantial clinical training. From the second month of the 22-month program, RN students put in an average of 16 clinical hours each week. Applicants to the standard RN program are admitted in both the spring and fall. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED with a minimum GPA of 2.5. In addition to an application, students must submit an essay of professional intent and transcripts. Reading and math assessments must also be taken prior to enrollment, though the tests may be waived if one has a bachelor’s degree or a minimum score on the ACT. Those applying for the LPN to RN bridge program must supply a copy of their LPN license along with an application, transcripts and personal essay. A minimum grade point average of 2.5 and a minimum score on the ACT or SAT are required. Lutheran School of Nursing participates in federal aid programs, awarding loans and Pell grants to those who meet financial need and other requirements.
