MACHINE INTELLIGENCE RESEARCH INSTITUTE
The Machine Intelligence Research Institute (MIRI) is a non-profit organization focused on developing the mathematical theory of trustworthy reasoning for advanced autonomous AI systems. It was established to develop safe artificial intelligence, and to raise awareness of both the dangers and potential benefits it believes AI presents. The organization focuses on three basic categories of open problem: designing autonomous agents that highly reliably pursue some goal; value specification for such agents; and making such agents error-tolerant. The Machine Intelligence Research Institute was founded in 2000 and is based in Berkeley, California.
