Real estate firm Max Capital was founded in 1996 by Adam Hochfelder, the famous real estate executive. At the time, Hochfelder was called the "Whiz Kid", having ownership or management stakes in over 740,000 m2 of real estate space. Among the more famous properties were the Helmsley Building, the Conde Nast Building, the Tommy Hilfiger Building and Westin Aruba Resort and Casino in the Caribbean. The company itself partnered with many famous banks and financial institutions like Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Credit Suisse, Citigroup, Wells Fargo and Fidelity.
