MOBILITY AID AND APPLIANCES RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (MAARDEC)

Providing mobility aids, advocacy, and support services to improve the lives of persons with disabilities Nigerian society is largely inaccessible to persons with disabilities. Streets, public buildings and public transportation systems lack accessibility facilities. In addition to this, affordable and sustainable mobility aids are rare. Government rehabilitation centers are limited in number and their training programs provide little access to job opportunities. Hence, people with disabiliti... es suffer from social and economic exclusion. Ensure that 500,000 Nigerians with disabilities acquire efficient and sustainable mobility aids and appliances by the year 2015 with 4,000 of them gainfully employed; 2,000 of them married and 200 of them either elected or appointed into various positions at federal, state and local governments
