Motion Picture Association of America – MPAA serves as the voice and advocate of the American motion picture, home video, and television industries in the United States and around the world. Members of Motion Picture Association of America – MPAA are the six major U.S. motion picture studios: Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures; Paramount Pictures Corporation; Sony Pictures Entertainment; Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation; Universal City Studios; and Warner Brothers Entertainment. ... The core mission of this organization varies from advancing the business and art of filmmaking, protecting the creative and artistic freedoms of filmmakers to ensuring the satisfaction of their audiences worldwide. In 1922, Members of Motion Picture Association of America – MPAA invented a self-censorship system namely Hays Code to ensure absence of “offensive material” and prevent from government interference in film making. This Hays Code’s censorship was removed in 1960 to provide artistic freedom for filmmakers. In 1968, Motion Picture Association of America – MPAA president Jack Valenti replaced the Hays Code with the current film rating system. Motion Picture Association of America – MPAA is a global organization with commercial and regional offices working to protect the film industry around the world. It also partners with content protection organizations in over 30 countries. This organization was formed in 1922 by William Hays.
