NearbyNewz allows users to share immediate and relevant information with anyone in their local vicinity through mobile devices. Local, user-generated news is received and exchanged based on individual user preferences. The key element that distinguishes our product is our version of the word “news”. We define news as information that impacts the way users conduct daily life. Whether it is an opportunity to meet a sports legend, an opportunity to participate in a county event, a weather event... , or a deal at a restaurant, the information users seek follows them were ever they go. It is a customized information feed that changes when the user changes locations. NearbyNewz allows users to set news location(s) as they see fit or let it change with them as their location changes. This setting determines which impactful news stories users receive based on a geo coding algorithm that feeds content by location preference. The application also allows for establishing a sort order by topic regardless of the user’s relationship, or lack thereof, with the news source. Locational based preferences drive the platform, rather than ‘follower’ or ‘friend’ status. Predefined user preferences create push notifications that only alert users to news and events they see as critical and occurring around them in real time.
