NEST ION

NEST iON is a company driven by R&D. Our first success was in improving the energy density of Lithium Thionyl Chloride D-sized batteries by 50% in the space of 18 months. NEST iON was able to immediately commercialize the results of their research with a South Korean manufacturing partner. We now sell our batteries in more than 20 countries. It was in the process of establishing our own pilot line in New York to produce these cells that NEST iON discovered a much bigger problem: to make the prod... uction of batteries sustainable. This project began in 2016 with the initial goal of making small volume battery manufacturing possible for NEST iON customers who needed customized battery technologies at scales that were not economically viable for mainstream manufacturers. It soon became clear that conventional battery production, even at the largest scales, was afflicted with incredible inefficiencies that would become increasingly unsustainable as economies shift from fossil fuels to renewable alternatives. NEST iON saw the urgent need for a complete rethinking of how batteries are made. We needed to reduce cost, reduce energy consumption, increase throughput and reduce the impact of battery production on the environment.
