ORDERVOUS

I founded a company called Ordervous which allows you to sell and buy home-cooking within your neighbourhood. Firstly, I’ll have to help you along with the pronunciation unless you’ve taken any french. The best way to say it and sound like a pro, is Ordervoo. Like, I'm just gonna to get Ordervoo tonight; let me see what's on Ordervoo; or hey, I gotta tell you about this Ordervoo thing, you’ve got to try it, it’s such a great idea! On face value it’s about sharing food, but it hope... s to be so much more than this, read on to find out. Sadly, in many towns and cities across Australia and around the world, with our increasingly busy lives, we’re losing touch with the people in our streets and neighbourhoods and gradually becoming more insular (and online) in our day to day lives. It may not seem like much now, but in time and for the next generation, the cost will be great. We gain so much from the support and relationships in our local community, from social skills to baby sitters, borrowing milk to odd jobs, exchanging knowledge and a shoulder to cry on; the community used to self-heal, self-police, be self-sustaining in many ways, including keeping money within the community. Instead many local businesses are failing, and the money is going out to large corporations domestic and overseas that don’t cycle it back into the local network. That community connectedness and support network is under threat. The best way to connect is through food. When we share food, not only does it nourish our bodies, but it comes with so much more - culture, love, passion and genuine connection with another human being, not fancy packaging. The level of service today has become faceless to a degree. There are plenty of fantastic home cooks all around us, with the time, energy and passion for cooking. There are also plenty of people with little time, patience and poor diets from having to purchase fast food. So in looking at this problem - our proposal is this to connect these two individuals - that they might each gain value from the interaction and help their community out at the same time. We are not going to magically have more time in our lives, and it is naive to think that communities will return to what they were before technology entered our existence but we can take steps to ensure we don’t lose it for good on our currently trajectory. And, if nothing else, simply having the option to make better dietary choices by purchasing a home cooked meal made lovingly across the street over fast food is still a step in the right direction to secure a healthier and more socially stable community. Ordervous also provides a powerful avenue for reducing food waste and packaging going to landfill. You never know, you could meet your new Grandparents, a best friend, a mother, grandkids, they might even invite you over to share a meal with them one day. More
