OREGON COAST CULINARY INSTITUTE

Oregon Coast Culinary Institute (OCCI), a partnership with Southwestern Oregon Community College, is where aspiring chefs come to receive training in culinary arts, including direct work in a bustling kitchen and study of specialized foods and cuisines. Academics comprise intensive programs in Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry Arts. Although students spend most hours in kitchens, mastering their culinary craft, most of them also participate in regular culinary camps and externships offered by... the school. OCCI even hosts an annual Oregon Coast Invitational, a team event for high school students who compete for a chance to win cash to pay for tuition at the institute. To be considered for admissions to the institute, applicants must submit an application along with fee, high school transcripts, and take a placement exam if applicable. Those who have ACT scores or appropriate college credits may be exempt from having to take the test. The institute administers financial aid such as Federal Pell Grants and private loans. Interested parties should speak to someone in the Financial Aid Office about their options for lowering their tuition and supplementing other costs like books, cooking supplies and housing.
