Plone is an open source content management system based on the Python programming language. The system is available in more than 40 languages. It enables less technical skilled individuals to create and maintain information for a public website or an intranet using a web browser. The company blends the he creativity and speed of open source with a technologically advanced Python back-end, and offers security without sacrificing power or extensibility. The system offers a variety of community-developed add-ons and extensibility tools. Plone was founded by Vidar Andersen, Alex Limi, and Alan Runyan in 2001.
