ServiRed Sociedad Española de Medios de Pago, S.A. is a payments scheme with 38.1 million cards (credit and debit), 767,103 merchants and 35,261 ATMs. It is a 100% Spanish-owned limited liability Company, with 78 shareholders of his 99 financial institutions members. The chief objecting of ServiRed is to assist its members in the substitution of cash by innovating and effective electronic payments system in order to reduce the huge cost to society as a whole of managing cash. Today ServiR... ed operates solely within the Spanish market. However, the advent of the SEPA opens a range of possibilities whereby domestic payments schemes may begin to provide services in other markets of Europe.
