It offers satellite transmission capacity and related services, such as media broadcasting services, including video broadcasting via satellite; regional, or continental or global distribution of television (TV) and radio programming; TV broadcast distribution and direct-to-home broadcast services; TV and radio programming transmission; ... communication and content distribution solutions, including high definition and satellite news gathering delivery; and entertainment channels and news programming broadcasting to cable headends, broadcast affiliates, and consumers' homes. The company also provides enterprise communication services, such as high-speed satellite-centric data networking and Internet backbone platforms for content delivery applications; private networks and enterprise IP networks, as well as content delivery to remote locations, including oil platforms, barges, ships, or search vessels; GSM network solutions; coast-to-coast connectivity for global ISPs; and disaster recovery solutions. In addition, it offers government services, which include satellite-based communications solutions to civilian and defense agencies; satellite-based telecommunications, such as bandwidth, infrastructures, and networking services to government agencies, public administrations, and their contractors; and various services for government agencies and contractors. Further, the company provides mobile broadband services, including satellite Internet, streaming, multicast file delivery, and broadband interactive communication solutions. As of December 31, 2008, it operated a fleet of 40 satellites in 26 orbital positions. SES S.A. was formerly known as SES GLOBAL S.A. and changed its name to SES S.A. in December 2006. The company was founded in 1985 and is headquartered in Luxembourg, Luxembourg.
