SOUTHWEST APPLIED TECHNOLOGY CENTER

Southwest Applied Technology Center in Cedar City, Utah offers a unique approach to professional education. What distinguishes Southwest is its open-entry, open-exit model, which allows students to enter at any time. While they are enrolled, they work at a skill for as long as it takes them to gain proficiency and then either move onto the next course or receive a certification based on the skills they have mastered. Students may stop or stay on as long as they want. Certifications at Southwes... tern go from a Certificate of Skills Competency, which is granted after one course, to the final Certificate of Completion, given to those students who have completed all of the skill-levels in their field. The majors offered at Southwestern train students for such fields as Automotive Technology, Plumbing, Business and Health Careers. In addition to awarding private scholarships and federal grants and loans to eligible students, Southwestern works in collaboration with state and federal organizations such as Department of Workforce Services to help students with certain economic and other challenges.More
