The concept of establishing a boutique presentation design agency was first consdiered by Synapsis Creative founder Torn Howell in the late 2000s. As the presentation design freelancer of choice in London for large companies such as Universal Pictures, Diageo, Ogilvy, Barclays and more, Tom observed a rapidly changing presentation landscape. As tenders, pitches, PFQs and proposals become increasingly similar on product features, differentiation became more critical to businesses who wanted to... stay ahead of the field. The methods of presenting information were becoming increasingly important and the increasing investment (in both time and expense) started to indicate the next communications battleground for big business would be in the quality of their presentations. Tom went on to create a presentation department within a design agency and then worked as an in-house presentation designer for large multinationals. This broad exposure to both in-house and agency design would ultimately equip him with the skills to start Synapsis Creative. Founding the company within two months of the birth of his first child, Tom put in the hours required to develop a small design agency into a 24 hour schedule alongside burping, feeding, napping and tummy-time. Once the client demand was established, Tom moved into managed office space and started working for some key foundation clients. As a start-up owner, he shifted into the required roles (from designer, Art Director, Account Management. Business Development. Finance and HP). Now, with a strong core team and a network of trusted freelancers. Synapsis is entering its third year and has grown into a culture of innovation, excellence, quirkiness, leadership and authority in its field. As the ability to communicate is becoming a strategic competency in executives, Synapsis Creative design solutions are being actively sought to augment and compliment communication strategies.
