Telluris Biotech India Private limited is involved in developing solutions to important issues plaguing the agricultural and food processing industries. They are currently developing alternatives to combat the plant parasitic pathogen, root knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita. Their research has established proof of concept for four different products and are in the process of establishing field trials data for registration of their products. Root knot nematodes account for about 12.3% crop loss... globally that is in the range of $167 billion and in India the losses are in the range of Rs. 21,068.73 million annually. The major crops affected in India are capsicum, tomato, chilli, okra, gherkins, muskmelon, watermelon, carnations, roses, gerbera and anthuriums. Nematode problems in these crops have reached an unprecedented level, wherein a loss of about 80% in crop yield has been reported in crops grown in protected conditions. It has also been reported that, nematode infestation makes the crop more sensitive to fungal infestations which leads to an increased crop loss. Considering these crop losses, Telluris Biotech India Private Limited is involved in developing integrated pest management strategies with products majorly targeting the root knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita.More
